Michigan Tech Transportation Institute (MTTI) membership is available to all Michigan Tech faculty and staff involved in or pursuing transportation related MTTI activities. Externally funded projects can be designated as a MTTI activity by indicating MTTI as the designated Institute on the Michigan Tech Sponsored Programs Office (SPO) transmittal form.
Members are classified into two groups: Principle Members and Affiliate Members. All others who seek to participate in a MTTI activity are eligible to be Friends of the Institute. Membership definition can be found in the MTTI Bylaws.
MTTI is allocated Internal Research and Development (IRAD) funding proportional to the indirect cost (IDC) recovery of MTTI activities. These funds are used for Institute and Departmental operating expenses and also for strategic investments. Strategic investments will be made for the purpose of supporting new or existing MTTI activities. These investments occur as either support of initiatives or through staff support provided by MTTI.
Initiative funding includes (but is not limited to) support for pre-award research or capacity building such as data collection, proof of concept, student support, staff support, equipment, travel and proposal writing support. Funding may also be provided as cost share for those projects in which cost share is a required element in a Request for Proposal (RFP).
Initiative guidelines and a funding matrix have been developed by the MTTI Executive Committee. The General Initiative request form must be submitted to the EC for review. The Travel Initative request form must be submitted to the MTTI director for approval . Those initiatives which do not meet the funding matrix categories will be deemed major initiatives and will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
Initiatives are intended for MTTI members. Non-members are welcome to apply and will be considered on a case by case basis.
